I think it’s fairly clear that our “progressive” brethren and sistren of the Obotic persuasion have begun to awaken to the fact that Barack Obama is, well, just not that into them. The utter ridiculousness and unnecessary clusterfuckiness of the health care “debate” combined with the pointless, rightwing-appeasing ousting of “progressive” appointee Van Jones has, in the words of a friend of mine, shown Obama’s ass. It’s now totally obvious to any but the most blinded by Obama worship that Obama never intended to do anything except funnel more money to his corporate and fundiegelical masters. His entire Presidency begins and ends with this goal. That’s really all there is to him, and there’s nothing we can do to change that fact. Why else would the Powers That Be have spent $800 million to force him down America’s throat? They expect a very high return on their investment, you know.

The chagrin and pain of ObamaNation would be cause for vengeful celebration if (a) we didn’t care that Obama is on the verge of completely and irretrievably screwing the possibility of universal health care for the foreseeable future, and (b) we thought that our Obots was (were? it’s so hard to get the Bushspeak context correct, isn’t it?) learning the right lessons.

We racist, bitter, bible-thumping dried-up old ladies were right, weren’t we? So why didn’t they listen to us and back Hillary Clinton? Why did the left blogosphere, for the most part, go so gaga over Obama? Was it merely the excitement of the first black President of the United States? Was it the superior marketing capabilities of Axelrod & Co., hand in glove with the corporate media who, not suspiciously AT ALL (insert eyeroll here) had suddenly discovered a hithertofore hidden lurv of liberal, anti-corporatist policies?

I believe Obama’s skin color, coupled with the media’s relentless coverups of his total and complete unsuitability for the job of POTUS, were two important factors. But two other factors were even stronger: Clinton Derangement Syndrome, and unrepentant misogyny. And I’m afraid our Obot “friends” have not chosen to understand how their own hatreds and prejudices led them to be hoodwinked, bamboozled and made to look like total and complete morons for believing Obama’s lies.

As Barack Obama continues to flounder, flip-flop and act like a fumbling fool on the issue of health care, Our Girl is doing what she always does: blooming where she’s planted. Aren’t you glad that SOMEONE in the Obama Administraiton is acting like a Democrat?!

Barely six months into her tenure as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has already made the State Department her own, setting its direction with her usual firmness and clarity.

Clinton’s just-concluded 11-day trip to Africa has sent the clearest signal yet that she intends to make women’s rights one of her signature issues and a higher priority than ever before in American diplomacy.

She plans to press governments on abuses of women’s rights and make women more central in U.S. aid programs.

But her efforts go beyond the marble halls of government and show how she is redefining the role of secretary of state. Her trips are packed with town hall meetings and visits to micro-credit projects and women’s dinners. Ever the politician, she is using her star power to boost women who could be her allies.

“It’s just a constant effort to elevate people who, in their societies, may not even be known by their own leaders,” Clinton said in an interview. “My coming gives them a platform, which then gives us the chance to try and change the priorities of the governments.”

Since the unexpected resignation of Governor Sarah Palin, the PUMASphere has been awash with emotion. Many of us voted McCain/Palin in protest and pain after our Party took a great candidate, the candidate we wanted and voted for, and swapped her for an unqualified, cheating, lying, Reagan-loving fundamentalist-hugger with a deep and abiding love for America’s financial institutions.

Sarah Palin is someone who has a lot of charisma and a high likeability factor. She is not in the Washington bubble, she worked hard to earn the Governorship of Alaska, she has a husband who is content to let her take the lead, and she appeared to govern from the center despite her very right-wing personal beliefs.

BUT.

What if all of that is not enough for you to run out and pledge to vote for her should she run for President against Barack Obama in 2012? What if you would rather not put all your eggs in that basket, but would prefer to work towards building an environment where Obama vs. Palin would not be our only scenario? One in which, perhaps, Hillary Clinton could run as an Independent, or maybe even another gifted (preferably female) liberal politician could arise? What if you feel that in order to run for President, Palin would have to answer to that right-wing fundamentalist base from which she draws her support, and would thus work against your interests if elected? What if you question her ability to be a true feminist, when she proudly proclaims that abortion should be outlawed even in the case of rape and incest and speaks at Right-To-Life rallies?

Well, if you have written any of these thoughts at a PUMA blog recently, you have been in for a treat: a veritable potpourri of sophisticated toxic memes, designed to throw your emotions into a tizzy, confuse your brain, and eventually cause you to throw up your hands and sit out the discussion. Can this really be a coincidence?

It seems pretty clear to me, especially after Cinie’s excellent piece about anti-feminism as an under-the-radar-movement, that the PUMASphere is being infiltrated once again by right-wingers. Their purpose is to destroy anything that might dislodge their dominance over society, and they will use any tactic WHATSOEVER to make that happen.

Several of our Widdershins commenters have pointed me to this article on Bill Clinton in the New York Times. I haven’t read the Times regularly since 1994, and now I remember why.

See if you can spot the ObamaNation talking points scattered throughout the propaganda piece. (Don’t worry, I’ll help you out.)

Bill Clinton loves to shop. On a March day in an elegant crafts store in Lima, the Peruvian capital, he hunted for presents for his wife and the women on his staff back home. He had given a speech at a university earlier and just came from a ceremony kicking off a program to help impoverished Peruvians. Now he was eyeing a necklace with a green stone amulet.

Standing all by himself, the former president of the United States moved his eyes methodically across shelves of wooden carvings, jewelry and sculptures as he searched for something distinctive to bring his wife. “She used to look forward to me coming home from wherever I’ve been,” he mused with a laugh. “Now I’m afraid I’ll be second fiddle to whatever world leader she’s just met.”

Talking Point: Bill’s a girl! He likes to shop! He’s totally emasculated by Hillary’s appointment as Secretary of State. Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz!

The advent of a new Democratic administration, with his wife in the top cabinet slot, has opened a new chapter in the eventful life of the nation’s 42nd president. No longer in exile, yet not exactly in the inner circle, Clinton is trying to define his role and find his place in the Age of Obama. He agreed to some limits on his activities to satisfy the good-government advocates around Obama, but he is still traveling the globe, pushing his favorite philanthropic programs, collecting six-figure checks for speeches, dining with foreign leaders and in his own way speaking for America again. A couple of weeks ago, he agreed to serve as the United Nations special envoy to Haiti.

Talking Point: See? Obama has only been in office five months and already he’s got an Age. An Age, I tell you! He is the most historical-est, bestest Preznit EVAH! And did Bill have a clothing line and his own TeeVee station? I don’t THINK so! Obama Roolz, Bill Clinton Droolz!

No one has combined the roles of former president and cabinet spouse before, and the lines are blurry. After Hillary Clinton’s nomination for secretary of state was announced, the telephones at her husband’s office rang as various ambassadors tried to go through him to get a meeting. The foreign leaders he meets with now ask after his wife and know they can use him to get messages to her. But Obama has not tapped Clinton to do anything significant for the new administration yet. Unless Obama messes up, says a former top Clinton aide, “President Clinton is irrelevant.” Obama does not need him. “This is not a circumstance in which Bill Clinton is going to have much of a role,” the aide says.

Talking Point: Bill Clinton is irrelevant. (Okay, that one was easy.) No one needs him, no one cares about him. Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz!

For both the trip to Davos and the trip to South America that I joined, Clinton said he checked first with Jim Jones at the National Security Council. “I say: ‘Look, I’ve been invited to go to this place. These people will be there. Do you want me not to go?’ ” he told me early last month. “If they want me to make any points on their behalf, I’ll do it. I really do believe there can only be one president at a time.” A White House official later told me that Clinton also checked with Jones before agreeing to take the United Nations post [as ambassador to Haiti].

Talking Point: Bill Clinton has to ask Obama for permission to go to the bathroom! Ha! Ha! Ha! Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz!

…At one point he devoted days to campaigning in South Carolina against the wishes of her strategists, only to watch her lose the primary.

Talking Point: Bill Clinton was why Hillary lost South Carolina, not because of the demographics of the state, and certainly not because of all the racial smears that the ObamaNation propagated against her! Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz! And speaking of those accusations of racism:

“None of them ever really took seriously the race rap,” he told me. “They knew it was politics. I had one minister in Texas in the general election come up and put his arm around me.” This was an Obama supporter. “And he came up, threw his arm around me and said, ‘You’ve got to forgive us for that race deal.’ He said, ‘That was out of line.’ But he said, ‘You know, we wanted to win real bad.’ And I said, ‘I got no problem with that.’ I said it’s fine; it’s O.K. And we laughed about it and we went on.” The other side is moving on, too. Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina, who once recalled an angry Clinton berating him on the phone for criticizing the former president’s campaign rhetoric, is letting bygones be bygones, at least publicly. “No fence-mending is needed,” Clyburn said through a spokeswoman.

Talking Point: It’s fine to smear the “first black president’ with racist accusations, even though you know they’re total and complete bullshit. It’s just politics! And don’t worry, Obama will do it again and again to whomever tries to fight him on anything – and you’d better excuse it just like Bill Clinton! Obama Roolz, Clinton Droolz!

Rahm Emanuel, who was a senior adviser to Clinton and now is chief of staff for Obama, recently described the current White House as a far more cohesive operation than his last one. “We don’t, rather, have the kind of New Democrats versus traditionalist split that existed in that White House,” he said on CNBC. “We don’t have in this White House the president-versus-vice-president staff divisions that have been in other White Houses.” Emanuel credited “the tone and tenor that the president of the United States has set in expectations.” The next day on ABC, he suggested Obama would rank among the best American leaders, comparing him with “successful presidents and transformative presidents” like Franklin D. Roosevelt, Kennedy and Reagan. Emanuel made no mention of Clinton.

Talking Point: Well, duh.

I noticed that in all the many comparisons of the two Presidents contained within this article, no mention was made of Clinton’s great commitment to gender equity. He appointed Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court, a woman and a real liberal to boot, and half of his Cabinet was made up of women. For this commitment, columnists in the New York Times derided and attacked him mercilessly. To add insult to injury, there is a great deal of “golly gee, maybe I shouldn’t have said Clinton killed Vince Foster cause it wasn’t true” type of way-too-fucking-late apologizing from the wingnuts who were responsible for crucifying him day after day in the corporate media, while the columnist is strangely silent about the crucial role the New York Times played in hyping every made-up scandal until it died a whimpering, embarrassed death. 

I’ll tell you the thing that really disturbed me about this article, besides all the fawning over Obama and His Holy Awesomeness. It was this idea of the “transformative” Presidency. Apparently being a “transformative” President is somehow more desirable than being a successful one, which even the Koolaid-swilling RahmBo Emanuel admits Bill Clinton was. And yet, all the Obamans say that Reagan was “transformative.” Um, if Reagan is the model Obama is following, then I’d rather have “successful,” thank you very much.

I am very, very troubled by where this country is going. I see the Left closing its eyes and leaping off a cliff with Obama, thinking there is still a safety net underneath it, and that nothing will happen except a hell of an exciting ride. But hear the words of  J-Som of Liberal Rapture, who perfectly encapsulated the way I feel about what Obama is doing to those of us on the left-leaning side of the aisle:

I think – ‘no, I shouldn’t get over it’. I see no reason to “get over it”. A “planned” mistake of epic proportions was foisted on us last year .

And I can’t get around the sense that it may be our final mistake. The mistake that ends the possibility for redemption. The one who comes after Obama shoud be as big a concern now for thinking people as Obama himself.

This mistake aided and abetted in corrupting the Left to its core – with the Left being willing, deluded participants. The far Right is alive now. Alive with passion and ideas. The Left, contrary to MSM blathering, is DEAD. A bunch of lost, confused, disempowered fools.

Exactly right. I can only “hope” that as we keep to our principles, and critique Obama from the left, that more and more Obama supporters (not Obots, they can kiss Angie’s ass!) will join with us PUMAs and make us into a force to be reckoned with.

Who is Hiding Behind These Masks?

SCENE ONE: The President of the United States, BARACK OBAMA, is sitting in the back of his plushly-appointed limousine. A TV screen showing constantly looping DVD’s of OBAMA’S greatest speeches is strategically placed in front of his eyes. It has a calming effect on him in these days of stress and strain. OBAMA is smoking a cigarette to further relax him in preparation for the meeting he is about to attend.

LIMO DRIVER: Where to, Mr. President? We’ve been driving in circles for 15 minutes now.

OBAMA: Is anyone following us, Frank?

LD: Just the usual photographers and Secret Service, Mr. President.

OBAMA: Ditch the photogs, Frank. The Secret Service knows where we’re going.

LD (with slowly dawning realization): Ohhhhhh. We’re going THERE. (impressed and determined) Hang on, sir. I’ll get you there  in no time.

OBAMA (leaning back in his seat, enjoying his smoke): Good, good. Don’t want to keep them waiting. They hate to wait.

(LIGHTS OUT.)

SCENE TWO:  The hallway of an anonymous office building somewhere in DC. There is no art on the walls, which are a tasteful ecru. A plush beige carpet leads to a nondescript blond wood door. OBAMA walks confidently down the hall and approaches the door.

DOOR (in sultry female voice): Welcome, President Obama.

OBAMA (with a big smile): Hello there, sweetie.

DOOR: Please speak today’s password phrase.

OBAMA (exasperated): Come on, you just recognized me! I’m the President of the United States. Just let me in already!

DOOR (implacably): Please speak today’s password phrase.

OBAMA: Awwwww, shit.  Uh, um…”We get the bucks, your life sucks?”

DOOR: Password incorrect. Two more tries, Mr. President.

OBAMA: The notion that somehow you would deny me entry…I’m the leader of the free world! How can you do this to me?!

DOOR: Do not try to baffle me with bullshit, Mr. President. I am not made to Obot specifications. (implacably) Please speak today’s password phrase.

OBAMA: SHIT! Uh, ummmmm…

(The trademark grin spreads across his face as he remembers the password)

OBAMA: Blood for oil, we get the spoils!

DOOR: Thank you, Mr. President. (the door clicks open) Welcome to the meeting.

(OBAMA walks through the door. LIGHTS OUT.)

SCENE THREE: A typical conference room. The bland decor of the hallway is echoed in the blonde wood, beige leather chairs and beige plush carpeting. The only ornamentation is one large P on the center of the back panel of the wall facing the audience.

Clustered around the stage left side of the table are five people in black robes and white, expressionless masks in the Greek tragedy tradition. Their sex, age and physical appearance are all indeterminate. They have voice-scramblers in their masks, to further hide their identities; the effect of this alteration is to make their words even more inhumane and eerie.

BARACK OBAMA enters stage right, strutting confidently. He takes his seat at the table, across from the five mysterious figures.

OBAMA: Hey, guys, how’s it going?

FIGURE 1 (pointing a finger intimidatingly): WE will ask the questions. YOU will answer.

OBAMA (only slightly daunted): Don’t worry about it, I’m cool. Uh, um…mind if I smoke in here?

FIGURE 2 (forbiddingly): Yes.

OBAMA (more sheepishly): Oh.

FIGURE 3: If you have QUITE finished stalling, young man, we will now proceed with your 100-day performance review.

(A screen comes down in front of the “P” in the back of the room. A blank report card entitled “BARACK OBAMA: FIRST 100 DAYS” appears on the screen. As the figures name the items being graded, the name of the item and the grade fill in the blanks.)

FIGURE 4 (whispering to 3): Are you sure the report card format was such a good idea? He’s not Dubya, you know.

FIGURE 3 (whispering back): Trust me.

FIGURE 5: Now, let’s check your progress on the Patriarchal Agenda. Hmmmm…let’s see. Item number one: Keeping our war machine oiled and running smoothly.

FIGURE 1 (snickering): Oiled! Ha ha ha!

OBAMA (preening): You’re darned right. And it wasn’t easy, either, especially when I talked about how I was against the Iraq war for two years and promised to end it…and now, I’m getting away with continuing it indefinitely. Some trick, huh? Plus, I’m even doing a surge in Afghanistan and building up to a third war in Pock-ee-stan – and not a protest in sight!

Stories to Watch in 2009

Happy New Year!

I’m finally, FINALLY off to see my relatives tomorrow, and I’ll be gone for a few days. But here are some developing stories that I know I’ll be following with interest:

International:

What is Pooty-Poot up to? Tensions are building in Ukraine after they refuse the Orwellian “discount” Russia offered them for their natural gas.

The Israel-Hamas war. What will happen? What is the solution? Can Hillary, as SOS, do anything about it?

Domestic:

The economy. Will Obama follow through with his promises to adopt more Rooseveltian economic policies? Or will he allow the Senate Republicans to block or ruin everything, using the fact that the Democrats don’t have a filibuster-proof majority as an excuse? Will we be able to dig ourselves out of this mess in four years?

Blagojevich and the Chicago Machine. How many people will Blago take down with him? Will the Burris nomination stand? Can the Dems suddenly object to an AA with years and years of experience, when they spent almost two years pushing an AA with none, and screaming “racist!” at anyone who questioned his qualifications to be President?

And…Who will be under the bus with us in 2009? Will Caroline Kennedy be next? Find out on January 14, 2009, in our next Blog Talk Radio show, “The View From Under The Bus!”

But Hillary Voted for The Warrrrrrrr!

Bloody hands. Warmonger. NeoCon DLC AIPAC hack. These were all words used by “progressives” to describe Hillary Clinton during the primaries. It was the excuse they all gave for claiming that Obama was a progressive and ever so far to the left of Hillary on foreign policy. Now what for the Obamasphere, as their progressive hero has appointed many Clintonites, including Hillary herself, to be Cabinet members and close advisors? (More schadenfreude: As of today, we can add one more Clintonite to the column – Bill Richardson as Commerce Secretary. Expect more impotent howling from Blogosphere 1.0.)

Let me spell it out for you, Obamans: Obama. Was. Lying.

Obama successfully used his speech against invading Iraq in 2002 to cover the fact that he and Hillary are virtually identical in terms of foreign policy. I have always thought this, and have maintained that Hillary will always be too hawkish for me because I’m more in the Dennis Kucinich mold when it comes to war and peace. For me, the reason to prefer her over him was never that she was to the left or right of him regarding Iraq; it was the fact that she had served on the Senate Armed Services Committee, had always been a friend to our troops in need, and had a long list of accomplishments and contacts in the world outside of America. In other words, EXPERIENCE. And frankly, seeing that Obama has kept Robert Gates on as SecDef, and seeing how Hillary dissed him completely during the press conference (she was supposed to introduce him, but did not do so or even look at him), I wonder if she is a little more dovish than he. But I suppose we will never know the answer to that question.

In any case, Barack Obama sure squeezed a lot of mileage out of that speech, didn’t he? He used it to bamboozle and okie-doke the Obamasphere, which was all too willing to buy his baloney because of the fact that he wasn’t a Clinton or a scary female-type-person. He thundered on and on about his superior judgment because of that speech, and when Bill Clinton tried to expose his true position on the war, Obama was quick to brand him a racist in order to prevent inconvenient facts like this from oozing out to the CDS-possessed, factually-challenged, Obama-worshiping “progressives:”

The former president had been complaining the news media paid too little attention to Obama’s record on the war. Then, he pointed an accusing finger at Obama.

“You said in 2004 there was no difference between you and George Bush on the war, and you took that speech you’re now running on off your Web site in 2004. There’s no difference in your voting record and Hillary’s ever since. Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen,” he said.

So, Obama took that 2002 speech, which he claimed represented the bestest judgment evah, off his own website in 2004 in order to push a more “moderate” line on the war once he became a U.S. Senator and would, you know, have to back up his words with actions. Lest you doubt Bill, Obama did exactly the same thing with his language on “the surge,” once he told Bill O’Reilly that it was a success: he changed his website, replacing his earlier, correct position with a more “moderate” (i.e., right-wing) position to reflect his ever-changing, yet oh-so-deeply-held, progressive principles.

Surprise surprise, Obots, Obama is a hawk.

 

 

So, Can She Start Now?

President-Elect Barack Obama has finally named Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as Secretary of State today. I am thrilled, but nervous, since I expect the press to react like this for the next four years, and she will face many challenges in her new position, including – perhaps – other members of Barack Obama’s Administration. 

What I’m wondering is, since Obama has been acting as co-President, can Hillary now act as co-Secretary of State with Condoleezza Rice? Because quite frankly, Dr. Rice has been an unmitigated disaster.

Just think about the history of this woman’s tenure in the Bush Administration. On 9/11, she was the National Security Adviser. She admitted in Congressional Hearings that she had seen the August PDB entitled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” She had taken no action whatsoever on terrorism either before or after this briefing, and on the day itself, she was scheduled to give a talk on missile defense and Russia. The idiocy of wasting time on this billion-dollar Reaganite boondoggle, when they had so much information on terrorism in their hands, is truly mindboggling. The Bushian excuses for missing the significance of the chatter and the foreign intel and the PDB were pathetic; Rice actually called the PDB a “historical document,” which was utterly laughable.

And as for the Secretary of State position, Rice has been all but invisible. Colin Powell was a strong Secretary of State, until he ruined his credibility with the cartoon drawings and vial of flour at the United Nations. After that, Bush should have appointed a person with impeccable credentials and experience; someone who could help erase the taint of the Iraq WMD lies from the SOS position. But who does Bush choose? A loyalist, a crony, the woman who failed to prevent the attacks of September 11, 2001. As a New Yorker, I was shocked and disgusted by this appointment. I knew then that Bush had taken the principle of “failing upward” to a new extreme.

The one time Dr. Rice actually tried to do something – that last-minute effort to hold a Middle East peace conference – she failed miserably. And that missile defense shield, which Rice is so fond of promoting? Well, that’s not working out too well. Who could have predicted that if America planted missiles 100 miles from Russia in Poland, it would be interpreted as an act of aggression? Oh yes – EVERYONE WITH 1/10TH OF A BRAIN.

but you wouldn’t admit that Barack Obama was not a progressive, liberal or even really a Democrat. You accepted all the crazy, ridiculous narratives that were fed you by Axelrove and Burton and Plouffe (Oh my!). Hillary is a racist! Hillary wants Obama killed! Hillary is an evil warmonger! The Clinton era was the same as the Reagan-Bush era! Obama will saaaaaave us from the evil clutches of the DLC and people like Joe Lieberman! We will finally, FINALLY get rid of all those moderate, centrist, Republican-lite politicians like the Clintons and achieve ideological purity if we just elect Obama, at which point all racism will also disappear and the world will move into a more enlightened Age!

Where do I begin with this nonsense? Well, how about the fate of the Queen of All Evil, Hillary Clinton? Looks like instead of slinking back to the Senate in shame, discredited for evah and evah, La Rodham is much more in this situation.

Now, Who Will Bring Me Cake?

Rumors are flying with great abandon about Senator Clinton’s future. Will she be Secretary of State? Will she take the job Ted Kennedy offered her in order to keep her autonomy and work on the issue that is nearest and dearest to her heart, Universal Health Care? Will she run for President ever again? Fiddle-dee-dee, what’s a girl to do?

One thing is certain: Senator Clinton is one of the most sought-after names in the country right now. Guess all that stuff Obama said about her foreign policy experience being limited to drinking tea and other ceremonial activities was just a bunch of hooey. And even Ted Kennedy, the biggest Obama supporter in the Senate, realizes he shouldn’t work on reforming health care without her. Awwwww, so sad, too bad, Cheetos. Bamboozled again.

Howard Dean says Joe Lieberman was kept in the Democratic caucus because the Senate was following Barack Obama’s lead. But then, the Huffington Post reported as much over a week ago. (Still trying to figure out what this movement is all about, since throwing the working class out of the Democratic Party doesn’t seem too progressive to me.) How’s that workin’ out for them so far? Rahm Emanuel, DLC mucky-muck, warmonger and Clintonite, is Obama’s Chief of Staff. Eric Holder, Clintonite and influential advocate of the Marc Rich pardon, is Obama’s Attorney General. John Podesta, Clintonite, is chief of Obama’s transition team. There are many more Clintonites up for Cabinet positions, including, of course, an actual Clinton.

I tell you, it’s a good thing nothing important is going on in America right now, because otherwise, this news would bother me just a tad.

CHICAGO (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama said on Thursday he would resign his U.S. Senate seat effective Sunday, which means he will not participate in next week’s post-election session that could address the ailing economy and struggling auto industry.

Obama, who will be sworn in as president on January 20, said he would step down from his Senate seat to focus on the transition to the White House.

This would explain Team Obama’s coyness when reporters repeatedly asked whether more economic legislation would be passed by the Congress before the inauguration. For example, during the press conference which caused me to dub him “President-Elect Treebeard,” this exchange occurred:

Q Sir, there’s been some suggestion from House Democrats that the stimulus package may be in trouble, that it’s going to be a hard time getting it out of a lame-duck session.

Are you still confident that you would be able to get something done before you actually take office?

PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA: I want to see a stimulus package sooner rather than later. If it does not get done in the lame-duck session, it will be the first thing I get done as president of the United States.

Obviously, the President-Elect never planned on using his power as the new head of the Democratic Party in the Senate during this incredibly crucial time.  Economy, ecshmonomy! Obama’s going to be busy picking his new Cabinet and staffing all the departments that Bush filled with underqualified graduates of Liberty University. While this is, admittedly, a big job, one would think that with 450 people working on it. Obama could afford to spend a few days helping push his economic vision through Congress.
